Funny Thing Happened While I Was Fat!

So I continue on my journey to a thinner and healthier life.  Thanks to reading lot’s of blogs, getting blog comments and following Weight Watchers, my journey is going well.  During the day while I constantly make choices, to keep me on track I think of what brought me to this point.  I have gone over the most obvious reasons such as to live longer, and move easier, be more comfortable, but yesterday I remembered some humorous reasons.  I’ll share one, part of the journey right?

The place I work has super small spots in the parking lot!  Many a time I’ve come out to my car and been unable to open one door or the other.  One day a couple of years ago, at one of my peaks in weight, I found my car impossible to enter from either side.  There was- no lie- maybe 6 inches on either side!  Ugh!  So frustrating. So I had an idea, I could climb in the back (SUV) hop over the seats and Wa La!  So I opened the hatch, (I’m in a parking garage with no one around- other than cameras!), as the tailgate goes up I notice a concrete beam at the top of the garage so I carefully hold onto the tailgate, so it won’t open all the way and hit the concrete beam, awkwardly and carefully I get in, knee first as I’m not nimble enough to hike my foot up get in, and still holding the tailgate, I transfer my hands to the inside and slam it, so it won’t pop open again.  At this point I think “Cool, I did it.”  One second after this point I notice the distance between the ceiling and the back seat is only about 8 inches give or take.  Uh oh.  I reassess the situation, (still no one in the garage near me- thank God!), and I notice no release to get back out the tailgate.  Hmm.  Here I go, before someone comes or drives by, I’m getting to the front!  Shoes off, breathe, and begin.  I hurl, pull, stretch, heave, push and otherwise move my bulk toward the front of the car, one hurdle at a time.  I was able to remove a headrest of the backseat, and wow- I didn’t know that did that!  Ok, learning about car, getting out of parking space, fitting through small areas, here we go.  Squeeze, pop, flop!  Now, I’m in the back seat, better!  Faced with a small through area, and tall front bucket seats I once again prepare for my next yoga position to get me further towards the front.  Head first? Feet first? Splits? Feet first headed toward passenger side, then second foot and my bulky trunk including the girls, toward the drivers side, pull, ouch, stretch, ouch, get that leg here, ouch, and done!  After two or three minutes, sweaty and embarrassed I felt like doing that little jump, throwing my hands up Mary Lou Retton style and expecting a score!  I did it!

Yay, all happy I did it.  Then the thought, “Really? Really you are happy you had to do all that?”  Yeah, maybe not so much. Daily I’m faced with hurdles I don’t need.  Life is already busy and challenging enough.  I’m sure this motivated me to lose 5-10 pounds, as I’ve done millions of times.  But eventually I end up back where I am, thinking, “one of these days, I’m gonna get a hold of this weight problem and make changes.”  I’m glad to say, with the help of other bloggers and your comments, I’m still going strong, yes it’s been less than a week, but I’m motivated, and being accountable (checking in with you all and Weight Watchers) and I think, no, I know I can do it this time!
